The Federal Government is indeed supporting many collaborative initiatives for sharing and leveraging Geospatial data, for use by both government and the public, classified and unclassified venues - for example the DHS Geospatial Data Model, and HSIP Gold - "a unified homeland infrastructure geospatial data inventory assembled by NGA in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for common use by the Federal Homeland Security and Homeland Defense (HLS/HD) Community". These foundation, standards-based programs help establish and reconcile the information-sharing policies and standards which programs like Virtual USA need to operate for the collective benefit of the broad HLS community.
